This feature, Vi Protect, builds on Vi's existing robust consumer protection measures including:

Why was Vi Protect introduced?
With growing digital transactions and communication, spam and scam attempts have increased significantly. Vi Protect helps safeguard customers from fraudulent messages, fake offers, and phishing links that can lead to financial or data loss.
How does Vi Protect work?
Vi’s spam detection detects and flags fraudulent and SPAM calls and SMS real time, using advanced AI models, web crawlers, and user feedback, it identifies suspicious callers before they reach the customer. When a potentially fraudulent number, calls or sends an SMS to a Vi customer, the phone screen will display ‘Suspected SPAM’ for calls and ‘Vi Suspected SPAM’ for SMS, thereby helping customers decide whether to answer the call. Unlike third party caller ID apps, this feature works natively within Vi’s network, ensuring better accuracy, and enhanced privacy
What types of threats can Vi Protect identify?
- Phishing or fake KYC/bank messages

How does Vi Protect handle international calls?
For international incoming calls, Vi Protect performs a real-time check to identify the country of origin and displays this information to the user, helping them decide whether to accept or reject the call.
Will Vi Protect block genuine messages or calls?
The system uses refined AI models and continuous learning to minimize false positives. Messages or calls are only blocked when confirmed as fraudulent; otherwise, they are flagged for user awareness.
How does Vi Protect improve over time?
The solution continuously learns from new spam patterns and fraud attempts through machine learning, enhancing its detection accuracy and response capability.
Is Vi Protect automatically enabled for Vi users?

Will this service work for me if I am not using a smartphone?
Vi Protect will work on VoLTE handsets only for Voice SPAM solution. SMS SPAM solution will work for all type of handsets
Why is the SMS/ call from my number showing as Suspected SPAM?
We are using a technology powered by advanced AI, that works on identification of suspected spam by leveraging machine learning algorithms, pattern recognition and continuous monitoring. The system can detect suspicious activities, including fraudulent links, unauthorized promotions, and identity theft attempts in real time using number of parameters and automatically creating rules which are then used to scan the SMSes against it. In case SMSes from your number is showing as 'Suspected Spam', then AI has identified the SMS content to be suspicious.
We have predictive mechanism for identifying the spammer, based on the number series and other logics. In case calls from your number are being marked as ‘Suspected SPAM’, then our AI based detection mechanism have found suspicious activity against your number.
Is there any Process or App required to activate this feature?
No. This feature is live on Vi's network and it does not need any app or specific activation.
Are there any charges for this service?
The solution is available for all Vi customers at no additional charge
Is there a way to report SPAM calls through Vi?
Yes, you can now report and block spam calls received right from the Vi App.
What is CNAP?
CNAP (Calling Name Presentation) is a service that displays the caller’s name along with the number on your phone when you receive a call.
Is CNAP the same as True caller or other apps?
No. CNAP is a network-based feature provided by your telecom operator and is not a third-party app.
How does CNAP work?
The telecom network retrieves the caller’s name from a verified database and sends it with the call setup information ONLY FOR VOLTE SUBSCRIBERS OF Vi
Is CNAP available for all users?
This feature is available for Volte Handsets only
Is CNAP mandatory or optional?
This feature is mandated by DoT. However, on dispute the name can be removed
Will my name appear when I call others?
Yes, your name which is registered with us during your KYC may be displayed when you call others CNAP is active on their line.
Where is the display name information picked from?
The display name is picked from the telecom operator’s customer database, based on your registered name in KYC records.
Can others misuse my name shown on CNAP?
No. The service is designed with strict data protection, showing only verified names and not personal details.
Will CNAP reveal my address or other personal info?
No, only your verified name is shown. No other personal detail like address, ID, or contact details would be shown
Is CNAP compliant with data privacy laws?
Yes, it complies with TRAI and DoT privacy and data protection regulations.
My name is displayed incorrectly. How can I fix it?
You can update your name via KYC correction at a Vi store or through the Vi app.
The caller’s name displayed is wrong or unknown. Why?
The other user’s KYC name may be outdated.
Can I control which calls show my name?
No. Currently it is applied uniformly for all calls to VoLTE handsets within Vi network
Can I choose a nickname or short name to display?
No. CNAP uses your verified registered name only.
Is CNAP a paid service?
Currently, CNAP is offered at no extra cost to Vi customers.
Will enabling CNAP affect my data usage or balance?
No.
Why am I not seeing caller names on my phone?
Your phone or network region might not support CNAP yet, or it might be disabled by default.
Which devices support CNAP?
Most 4G and 5G smartphones that support VoLTE
Will CNAP work on international calls?
Currently no.
Will CNAP work on calls from other opertor network?
Currenlty this feature is available only for calls from Vi network
My family member’s phone shows names, but mine doesn’t. Why?
CNAP availability depends on your SIM plan, device compatibility, and network coverage.
I changed my name legally; how do I update CNAP?
Visit a store with your updated government ID to modify your KYC records.
Will CNAP data sync with phone contacts?
No. The CNAP feature operates independently and does not depend on your local phonebook and will not read any phone contacts stored in the phone. Data privacy is ensured in this feature
How does Vi malicious link detection work?
Vi’s malicious link detection solution ensures that when you click on a link on your mobile handset, the domain is instantly assessed in real-time for potential threats using Vi’s AI solution. If identified as malicious, the domain is blocked at the network level, and you will be redirected to a secure webpage which mentions that the link has been identified as malicious by Vi. This feature works for both Vi Prepaid and Postpaid users
Does the feature work on all phones i.e. 2G /4G /5G and Android/ iOS?
The feature works for all Vi mobility users irrespective of the device.
Does this solution monitor the internet activity and thus intrude my privacy?
Vi’s malicious link Detection Solution does not monitor internet activity. Instead, when you click on a link, the domain is instantly assessed by Vi’s AI and algorithm-based analytics for potential threats– ensuring personal privacy remains uncompromised.
What happens to unsafe Domains that originate from global service providers?
With Vi’s malicious link Detection Solution, domains accessed on Vi’s network, regardless of their origin, are assessed in real-time for potential threats by Vi’s AI and algorithm-based analytics. If identified as malicious, the domain is blocked at the network level.
Do I have to do anything to enable this?
Whenever you’re on the Vi mobile network, our malicious link detection solution will be active for you by default. There’s nothing you need to do – no app to download and no specific handset settings.
Will I get charged for the malicious link Detection service?
No. The identification and blocking of fraud links is available for all Vi customers at no additional charge.
What happens if a legitimate link or domain gets marked as unsafe?
If you believe that a domain has been incorrectly blocked as unsafe, you may write to us at spam.grievance@vodafoneidea.com. We will investigate the Domain and if our malicious link Detection Solution finds it to be safe as per real time update, the same will be unblocked.
Will I need the Vi app to be able to use the product?
No, this feature is automatically enabled for all the customers using Vi mobile network without requiring the users to download any additional applications.
How can I know before clicking on the link if it is malicious or not?
You can check the authenticity of a link or Link/Domain only after clicking on the same. If the Link/Domain is unsafe, you will be redirected to a secure webpage which will display an alert that the Domain has been identified as malicious.
Does this solution work everywhere and when I am travelling outside India?
Our solution works automatically whenever the Vi network is in use. However, when the Vi network is not used to route towards the destination, such as when VPN and Custom DNS are being used, our solution will not work.
This feature is not working for me. Why?
Our solution works automatically across devices whenever the Vi network is in use. If you are not able to see the feature on your device, it could be due to any of the following reasons:
- You may be using any VPN or Custom DNS which may be hiding your activities from the Vi network
- Your device browser may override the solution and show their default message
