The wait is finally over as the IPL 2025 is all set to resume! After an unexpected and tense pause due to security concerns earlier in May, the BCCI has officially confirmed that the league will return to our screens from May 17, with the grand finale scheduled for June 3. The Revised IPL 2025 Schedule: What’s New?
The IPL 2025 season was abruptly halted on May 8, after the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala was cancelled due to an attempt by Pakistan to breach Indian airspace. This incident triggered a blackout and a temporary suspension of the league, causing understandable concern among players and fans alike.
Fortunately, following a ceasefire agreement and consultations with national security agencies, the BCCI announced on May 12 that the league will resume with a revised schedule starting Saturday, May 17.
Here’s what’s new:
- Total Matches: 17 games will be played between May 17 and June 3.
- Venues: The league matches will now take place across six cities: Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai.
- Double Headers: Two double-header Sundays: one on May 18 and another on May 25.

Changes in Venue:
- Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals has moved from Dharamshala to Jaipur.
- Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kolkata Knight Riders has moved from Hyderabad to Delhi.
- Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians has moved from Dharamshala to Jaipur.
- Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals has moved from Chennai to Delhi.
Changes in Timings:
- Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians has been shifted from 15:30 hrs to 19:30 hrs.
- Rajasthan Royals vs Punjab Kings has been shifted from 19:30 hrs to 15:30 hrs.

With the resumption of IPL, franchises are now in a race to reassemble their squads, especially the foreign players. Some, like Josh Hazlewood (RCB), may face delays due to injuries. Others, such as Pat Cummins (SRH) and Kagiso Rabada (GT), could be unavailable as they prepare for the World Test Championship Final at Lord’s starting June 11.
