Maharani, a political thriller based on 1990's Bihar politics, follows the story of the main character, the newly elected, illiterate, and inexperienced CM of the Bihar state, Rani Bharti. After being shot, the Bihar CM Bheema Bharti unexpectedly names his wife Rani his successor. Rani, a simpleton woman who knows nothing apart from her cattle-rearing and household chores, has to juggle with the government ways of working, casteism, corruption, and backstabbing. Will someone like Rani, with no political experience be able to pull through as the CM of Bihar?

In this fictional series, actor Huma Qureshi brilliantly portrayed the lead role, effortlessly adding nuance to the political novice, who slowly gains confidence as she learns the nitty-gritty of politics. Other supporting power-packed performances from Sohum Shah, Amit Sial, and others left their mark too.

After the compelling season 1, Maharani Season 2 is set to release on August 25th. Bheema Bharti, who was running a proxy government from prison, is now ready to claim back the political position from his wife Rani. With elections right around the corner, will Rani turn victorious amidst Bihar’s lawless “jungle raj”, while dealing with her husband and opposition from her own party.
