Initiate your eSIM request via Vi app

Login to the Vi app

Navigate to Help > Raise a service request > Activate eSIM

Select device type (Android / iOS) and Enter EID

Select if you want to activate on the same device or another device

Enter the 32-digit EID number for the device you wish to activate eSIM on

Verify the OTP on your registered phone number.

Download eSIM profile

Post successful request creation you can download eSIM profile after 15 mins via

a. Notification received on device

                           OR

b. Scanning the QR code received on your registered email address

Before downloading the profile or Scanning the QR, ensure the phone is connected to stable/strong Wi-Fi

After switching from a physical SIM to an eSIM, activate the new eSIM profile, remove the physical SIM and restart your device

things to know while getting eSIM
  • Apart from having an eSIM compatible device, it is mandatory to have your email ID updated in your account as we’ll be sharing information regarding your eSIM profile
  • Do not click on the ‘delete’ option in the eSIM settings as it will remove the eSIM from your phone and you won’t be able to make calls, access mobile data, etc.
  • Upon eSIM request completion, Incoming and Outgoing SMS services (including OTPs) will be barred for 24 hours after eSIM activation as per Government regulations. iMessage and Face Time will be barred for iOS handsets for 24 hours after eSIM activation.
  • After switching from a physical SIM to an eSIM, activate your new eSIM profile, remove the physical SIM and restart your device.
  • When migration happens eSIM to eSIM (Device change). Profile has to be deleted from old handset when eSIM migration happens to New Device
  • Do not share QR Code with anyone, it may lead to unauthorized access to your mobile number.

An eSIM stands for “Embedded Subscriber Identity Module” that is embedded inside your device. It is a digital SIM that allows you to use a Vi number without using a physical SIM. The Vi SIM profile will get automatically downloaded/installed on the eSIM upon completion of requisite processes.

Dial *#06# on your device to view your EID

To find your device's EID (Embedded Identity Document), a unique serial number for eSIM devices, you can typically locate it in your device's settings under "About Phone" or "About Device," then look for "SIM Status" or "Status Information," or by dialing *#06#.

•  Here's a more detailed breakdown:

➢ On Android Devices:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go to About Phone or About Device.
  3. Tap on Status, Status Information, or SIM Card Status.
  4. The EID will be listed in the eSIM or SIM-related section.
  5. Alternatively, you can dial *#06# on your phone's dialer to display the EID and IMEI.

➢ On iOS Devices (iPhone):

  1. Go to Settings > General > About.
  2. Scroll down to locate your EID number.
  3. You can also dial *#06# on your phone's dialer to display the EID and IMEI.

➢ Other Methods:

  1. Some manufacturers, like Samsung, may print the EID number on the device's box.
  2. Check your carrier's app or website, as some carriers include the EID in their account management tools.

For iPhones:

  1. Open My Vi App > eSIM > Upgrade to eSIM.
  2. Confirm your email and enter the EID of the new device.
  3. Authenticate via OTP sent to your Vi number.

Note: SMS services will be unavailable for 24 hours after the transfer.

For Android Devices:

  1. Open My Vi App > eSIM > Upgrade to eSIM.
  2. Confirm your email and enter the new device’s EID.
  3. Authenticate via OTP sent to your Vi number.

  1. Connect to a data network or Wi-Fi.
  2. Open Settings > Network & Internet > Click on the + sign next to Mobile Network.
  3. Click on ‘Download a SIM’.
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts to activate your Vi eSIM.

  1. Connect to a data network or Wi-Fi.
  2. Go to Settings > Connections > SIM Manager > Add eSIM and follow the prompts.

You can use dual SIM on your eSIM enabled phone with one physical sim and one eSIM. Since your eSIM enabled phone is already embedded with an eSIM, you will no longer need to obtain a physical SIM to physically insert or remove the SIM in case of any changes such as when taking a new Vi number, changing your existing Vi  number from 1 telecom circle to another or in case of lost/stolen device.

For obtaining a new Vi connection, customer needs to visit the Vi Store with his/her eSIM supported device, fulfil the KYC requirements and request for eSIM. You will need to provide your Proof of Identity and address to complete the KYC requirements.  The list of documents for a new connection remains the same as applicable for a physical SIM based postpaid connection.

No, you will need to follow the process as mentioned above.

Your eSIM will get activated within 30 minutes of scanning the QR code. Please note, your incoming and outgoing SMS services will be barred for 24 hours as per Govt. regulations.

No physical document is required to activate your eSIM via SMS option. It will be required only in case of lost/ damaged SIM or in case of obtaining a new Vi mobile connection or MNP to Vi

No, there no additional charges for activating your eSIM.

If the new device has eSIM functionality then you can follow the process as mentioned above (ie.steps to convert your existing SIM to eSIM) – on completion of the process, the earlier phone’s eSIM will get deactivated and the new phone’s eSIM will get activated with the same Vi number.

If you terminate the Vi connection, the Vi eSIM profile will get deactived. You can then get the eSIM configured with the other operator’s SIM profile.

At a given point of time, only 1 operator SIM profile can be configured on the eSIM.

Incase QR Code is not received please check spam/junk folder or search for sender id esim@vodafoneidea.com. If the issue persists, please get a different domain mail id such as Gmail and register the new email ID via the Vi App. Post 24 hours from registration of new email id , please send eSIM <space> registered email id to 199 for eSIM activation.

To update the email ID on your secondary number, send an SMS with Secondary<space>Email ID to 199. It will be updated within 30 minutes.
