The Internet of Things (IoT) is no longer a futuristic concept—it is reshaping how Indian businesses operate, compete, and scale. From smart manufacturing to connected mobility and digital payments, IoT adoption is accelerating across industries.
Yet for many enterprises, the path from an IoT idea to live deployment remains riddled with uncertainty: Will the device work on the network? Does the solution meet compliance standards? How do we validate a use case before committing to full-scale rollout?
The Vi Business IoT Innovation Lab is designed to address these challenges, enabling faster, safer, and more cost-effective IoT adoption.
An Internet of Things lab is a dedicated environment where businesses can prototype, test, certify, and validate IoT devices and solutions before deploying them in the real world. Rather than relying on costly field trials that may fail, an IoT laboratory offers a controlled, fully equipped space to simulate real-world network conditions, identify gaps, and iterate rapidly.
For Indian MSMEs and enterprises navigating a complex technology landscape, this is critical. Poorly tested IoT solution deployments can result in costly downtime, compliance failures, or poor field performance. A robust IoT testing lab eliminates these risks at the prototype stage itself.
The Vi Business IoT Innovation Lab is India's first telco-backed co-creation and certification hub, built in collaboration with AWS and C-DoT. It is designed as a next-generation, full stack innovation hub for device vendors, OEMs, M2M service providers, start-ups, and enterprises.
A dedicated space where businesses work alongside Vi Business and AWS experts to prototype and test solutions on live setups, not simulations. This ensures solutions are built for real-world impact.
The lab provides access to Vi's network technology stack spanning across 2G, 3G, 4G, NB-IoT, and 5G. This makes it a truly network-agnostic Internet of Things laboratory, capable of handling a wide range of device and connectivity requirements. This enables businesses to test device and solution behavior across varied network conditions, ensuring consistent performance at scale.
Through its partnership with C-DoT, the lab offers device testing and validation for interoperability and compliance. Upon successful testing across 175+ scenarios, including functional, interoperability, compatibility, and use-case-specific testing, a joint Vi-C-DoT certificate is issued, valid for up to 12 months. This improves deployment confidence and reduces field failures.
Businesses can ensure their devices and applications are built to oneM2M standards with guidance and testing support from C-DoT's expertise. This is critical for solutions intended for large-scale or cross-network deployment.
From ideation through integration, the lab provides custom guidance at every stage of the development journey, making it more than just a testing facility.
The lab operates on a three-stage engagement model, Inspire, Orchestrate, and Transform, that guides businesses from initial curiosity to commercial deployment.
An Inspire Session offers a curated walkthrough of live use cases, helping businesses identify problems IoT can solve. An Orchestration Session follows for select customers, enabling co-creation of a solution roadmap with Vi Business and its partners. The Transform phase then takes validated solutions to certified, scalable commercial deployment. With this structured approach, the Vi Business IoT Innovation Lab ensures a clear pathway from concept→validation→scale for enterprises.
C-suite executives gain strategic clarity by experiencing live, industry-specific IoT use cases during Inspire Sessions. The lab provides a concrete foundation for digital transformation decisions, backed by certified outcomes and measurable ROI frameworks.
MSMEs benefit immensely from access to enterprise-grade IoT testing and co-creation capabilities without the burden of building independent infrastructure. The lab levels the playing field, enabling smaller businesses to validate and deploy solutions that were previously accessible only to large corporations.
SMEs looking to scale their technology investments can use the lab to prototype new IoT applications, reduce go-to-market timelines, and build confidence in their solutions before approaching larger clients or investors.
Large enterprises can leverage the lab's network simulation capabilities, joint certification, and oneM2M compliance support to accelerate complex, multi-site IoT deployments while significantly reducing the risk of field failures.
IoT success is not just about connecting devices; it is about ensuring those devices perform reliably, securely, and at scale. The Vi Business IoT Innovation Lab provides enterprises with trusted pathway from experimentation to enterprise grade deployment, accelerating India’s journey toward a connected, intelligent future.
The Vi IoT Innovation Lab is India’s first telco-backed co-creation and certification lab, where businesses can test, certify, and co-create IoT devices and solutions. It is designed to make IoT adoption faster, safer, and simpler.
Inspire: Immerse visitors in live demos that spark ideas and showcase possibilities.
Orchestrate: Explore and discuss co-create opportunities
Transform: Sign up together to deliver certified, interoperable solutions that drive measurable business impact.
AWS is the Technology Partner that brings its cloud, edge computing, and AI capabilities to enable scalable, future-ready solutions and joint go-to-market activities.
C-DOT is our certification partner, ensuring solutions meet telecom standards and are interoperable with Indian network requirements and as per oneM2M
Together, they make the lab a trusted, open ecosystem hub for innovation.
5G labs focus primarily on use case & application development on 5G Technology. 100 labs in Indian Academia were announced funding through DoT by PM at IMC 2023 to encourage R&D effort of 5G and 6G.
Vi IoT Innovation Lab is network-agnostic (supports 2G, 4G, NB-IoT, 5G) and goes beyond connectivity — it certifies devices, simulates real network conditions, and co-creates solutions with customers across industries.
MTCTE labs certify devices for regulatory compliance (accepted TEC standards) only.
Vi IoT Innovation Lab complements MTCTE by testing end-to-end solution performance, network interoperability, and readiness for large-scale deployment — something regulatory labs don’t offer.

IoT Lab is currently located in Mumbai. However, testing is conducted with Live network PAN India as per the use case requirements.
There are currently 175+ scenarios against which the product is tested. The test scenarios are added or modified as per applicability to a type of product. The broad test categories are-
Yes, after successful testing against all the applicable test scenarios a joint certification with C-DOT will be issued for the tested device.
The certificate is valid for a maximum period of 12 months or as long as the hardware/ firmware/ software version remain the same, whichever is earlier.
The certificate will be shared with the customer as a soft copy and a hard copy along with test reports and recommendations.
The test scenarios for oneM2M standards compatibility include validating the device firmware/ communication and protocols or application platform are built as per oneM2M guidelines. This would also involve interfacing the device with the C-DOT Common Services Platform to validate if the interoperability at the application level is as per oneM2M standards.
