Let’s begin with a simple explanation of the famous Schrodinger’s Cat Paradox that I’ve sourced from Wikipedia:
“A cat, a flask of poison, and a radioactive source are placed in a sealed box. If an internal monitor detects radioactivity (i.e., a single atom decaying), the flask is shattered, releasing the poison, which kills the cat. However, no one knows whether the cat is dead or alive until you open the box. Till then, the cat (in a sense) remains both ‘dead and alive’ at the same time.”
In the digital world, the same applies to any product or application. If an idea or solution doesn’t shatter the world, it is both bad and good (dead and alive). To understand its effect, it needs to be launched and tested to find the outcome - just like any scientific theory. No one knows if a scientific concept is correct or wrong until said theory is tested and proven or debunked.
Our belief at Vi Business is similar to the Internet of Things (IoT) deployments for our customers. The solution has to solve a problem and bring out the benefit for our customers. After clearly defining the problem that needs solving and the scope getting shortlisted among multiple stakeholders, our team works on a solution with robust mechanisms in action. We partner with other industry/solution architect organisations to co-create an optimum solution. After a stringent evaluation process (functional and non-functional), we then offer it to our customers, stitched right and powered by our proprietary IoT framework. The need, scope, and scale of IoT deployments differ from industry to industry.
That is why we, at Vi Business, have launched Integrated IoT- a range of industry-specific end-to-end IoT solutions
Smart Mobility
That caters to automotive OEMs, transport and logistics (telematics, AIS140, cold chain logistics), UBI, and many more
Smart Utility
That addresses energy and utility AMI/ AMR, energy management, and water management plants, among others
Smart Infrastructure
That covers IIoT 4.0, asset management, environmental sensor solutions, cold cabin monitoring, and more
On a personal front, I still believe that a “Killer/Game-changing” IoT application or solution is yet to claim its position. For example, nobody had heard of an iPad till the day of its launch. The very next day, everybody wanted it, and the day after that, everybody had one. That’s what a killer/game-changer application or solution is—something that everybody wants the moment they hear about or see it.
IoT is in search of ground-breaking use cases. Are we at Vi Business gearing up for them? Absolutely! And it all depends on your ideas! The search for the killer/game-changing applications of IoT continues. We believe that these are just around the corner and will most likely appear in the market suddenly and without warning.
Here are a few remarkable IoT deployments that we, at Vi Business, are currently working on or have already rolled out:
The machines in the production line of an OEM were made intelligent to change the game since the CEO could get near real-time information regarding the utilisation of shifts, employees, and the production line. It facilitated data transparency and brought about a “cultural” change in planning the utilisation of the plant, people, and processes.
A fleet logistics aggregator had integrated the fleet with “machine learning” intelligence, only to discover that drivers were misusing the one-hour stop each day for unauthorised activities - which had bothered the aggregator for a long time. The data acted as proof and helped track and resolve their behavior.
Vaccine transportation has been a big challenge since the launch of COVID-19 vaccination drives, due to critical criteria like temperature maintenance and other factors. Vi Business provided a solution that gave the drivers real-time consignment details to ensure that they were maintained right. It also enabled the management teams with real-time data to make quick decisions and ensure end-to-end delivery. It ensured that any malfunction in the critical parameters could be detected immediately and resolved to preserve the vaccine en route, rather than realising and reacting when it would have been beyond repair.
We are all trying to innovate the next great thing, for that one has to have a better idea but developing and making it available for masses and widely appealing is more important than having just an idea.If the product is good enough customers will seek it out themselves, therefore we need to constantly innovate and find new ways to enrich the lives of our customers.
In the end, the Internet of Things is essentially the Internet of People - an extraordinary and powerful communication and commerce tool. All the things connected to the internet are growing, and while communication technology has an impressive roadmap, so does their applications. We need to be ready to explore the possibilities.
If you have any ideas on how you can drive these possibilities, please share them with us, and we’ll see how to take them from there!
